School Interventions

Black History Walks works with  schools to improve behaviour, academic performance and self esteem. We work with primary/ secondary schools and colleges. Interventions can include anything from 30 min assemblies, two hour workshops for teachers/parents or 12 and 26 week  courses with classes or year groups. We can also arrange for selected professionals to come in and give career talks or  arrange for pupils to visit high profile corporations in the City of London. School groups can also use the history walks to enhance the curriculum

Below are some quotes from the final self-analysis of our 26 week long course with a group of Year 6's in Lewisham..

What I liked best about the lessons  …..

Shah: They were fun but at the same time educational

Mala: How sir explained everything full and let us all interact

Sianna: Being able to talk about stuff which is also educational and fun

Anna: Learning about positive and negative actions

Seka: That we could all share our feelings together and have different experiences in a fun way

Rozo: Mostly everything

Birani: when we learned about the body language and communication Sir did funny actions which looked like the actions of some of the class.

Regiana: The way they were explained so well. I learned much more about my black history. Thanks to Sir I will be able to know more about stuff

Kezion: I like how the teacher involved everybody

Norman: we got to learn a lot about our culture and so many things that not even my parents have taught me

David: They teach you that you don’t have to listen to other people when they say something bad about you

If I did not have these lessons I would be …..

Sarah: Not very happy because they helped me build confidence

Mala: I would have low self esteem and no understanding of my history

Sianna: Not as confident as I am now with myself

Anna: Not know anything about history

Emma: Useless and not know about self esteem and lots more

Edith: A bit thick

Rozo: I wouldn’t be so confident as I am now and wouldn’t know much about self esteem

Birani: I would still be high in my self esteem because I don’t really listen to music or negative videos

Kwame: Not have learned from my mistakes

Larry: I wouldn’t know all about the effect that words can sometimes have on people

Lissa: Less confident

Regianna: I wouldn’t have a clue about positive and negative videos and words of speech

Kwame: Low in confidence

Elise: I would have had low self esteem and wouldn’t be confident

Kezion: a negative girl who only thinks about herself and no one else. I would be listening to negative music and not realising

David: Miserable for the rest of my life till the day I die

The one thing I will remember from the lessons for the future is..

Shah: I can be successful and if I believe I can achieve

Mala : Black History

Seeka: That I can be whatever I want to be if I put my mind to it

Rozo: To have trust in myself and never give up with anything

Birani: Always don’t let yourself down and be self confident

Emilia: That information is useful and might help me for secondary school if we are learning about history

Kezion: I can be whoever I want to be if I believe in myself and it doesn’t matter what other people think about you, it’s about what you think about yourself

Norman: all the videos we watched and judged whether they were positive or negative and all the things I learned about Africa

David: Always follow your dreams
